What is the Device Information Checker?

A Device Information Checker shows the hardware-side details a website can read about your device. Toollyz Device Information Checker classifies the device as a phone, tablet or desktop/laptop, reports the operating system and platform, screen and available resolution with pixel-density (DPR) and color depth, current viewport size, processor cores, device memory, touch points and pointer/hover capabilities, and — where the browser allows — the GPU renderer and vendor (via WebGL) and a connection estimate. It also surfaces which device-level web APIs are available (Battery, Bluetooth, USB, Gamepads, Vibration). Everything is read locally; nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool know what device I'm on?

It combines your user-agent string with browser capabilities — touch points, screen size, pointer/hover support — to classify the device as a phone, tablet or desktop/laptop. It only uses what the browser exposes.

Why does my screen resolution look different from my display?

Browsers report the OS-side resolution divided by your device pixel ratio (DPR). A 2560×1600 screen at DPR 2 reports 1280×800 — the “CSS pixels” the browser draws in. The tool shows both the resolution and the DPR.

What is device pixel ratio (DPR)?

It's the multiplier between CSS pixels and the actual hardware pixels on your screen. High-DPI displays (Retina, modern phones) typically have a DPR of 2 or 3, so each CSS pixel covers more physical pixels for crisper rendering.

Why is my GPU shown as “Apple GPU” or a generic name?

Browsers can obscure the unmasked GPU renderer/vendor for privacy. What you see is what your browser exposes — sometimes a generic identifier rather than the exact chip name.

Why don't I see CPU cores or device memory?

Some browsers (notably Safari) don't expose hardwareConcurrency or deviceMemory for privacy. The tool shows “—” when the value isn't available rather than guessing.

Why is the connection card missing in some browsers?

The Network Information API is only implemented in Chromium-based browsers. On Safari and Firefox the card is omitted because the data isn't available.

Will it update if I resize or rotate?

Yes — the viewport and orientation update live as you resize the window or rotate the device, so you can see the values change.

Is any of this data sent to Toollyz?

No. Toollyz has no server — everything is read directly in your browser and never uploaded. You can copy or download a JSON snapshot, but only if you choose to.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The same details are read from mobile browsers, including touch points and orientation.

Is this device info tool free?

Completely free with no signup. Device detection, screen, hardware and GPU info are available to everyone, privately in your browser.
