Internet Speed Test
Test your internet connection's download and upload speed, ping and jitter straight from your browser, with live gauges and a history of past runs. Free and private.
What is the Internet Speed Test?
An Internet Speed Test measures how fast your connection is right now: how quickly it downloads data, how quickly it uploads, and how responsive it is (latency). Toollyz Internet Speed Test runs entirely in your browser against Cloudflare's public speed endpoints — the same network many speed tests use. It first measures latency (ping) and jitter with a series of tiny requests, then measures download by streaming data and timing a steady-state window (discarding the initial ramp-up for a stable number), then measures upload by sending data back. Results appear live on animated gauges in megabits per second (Mbps). Because it's a single-stream, browser-based test, the numbers read a little lower than dedicated multi-connection apps — but they're a reliable, repeatable measure of your connection, and nothing is uploaded to Toollyz (there is no Toollyz server; the test talks directly to Cloudflare).
How to use it
- Click Start speed test — keep the tab focused for the most accurate result.
- Watch ping and jitter measure first, then download, then upload, live on the gauges.
- Read your speeds in Mbps and latency in milliseconds when the test finishes.
- Run it again any time, and compare against your recent-test history below.
Benefits
- Download and upload speed in Mbps, plus ping and jitter.
- Live animated gauges that update as each phase runs.
- Accurate download measurement using a steady-state window (slow-start discarded).
- Runs against Cloudflare's global network — no Toollyz server in the middle.
- A history of past runs so you can compare over time or between locations.
- Honest methodology notes about single-stream, browser-based measurement.
- Works on any device, no app or signup required.
- Free and private — results stay in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
How does this speed test work?
It runs in your browser against Cloudflare's public speed endpoints. It times a streamed download over a steady-state window, times an upload of raw data, and measures ping/jitter with small requests. Speeds are reported in megabits per second (Mbps).
Why is my speed lower than my plan or another speed test?
This is a single-stream, browser-based test, so it typically reads a bit lower than dedicated apps that open many parallel connections. Browser/JS overhead, Wi-Fi, VPNs, other devices on your network, and your distance to Cloudflare's nearest edge all affect the number.
What do download, upload, ping and jitter mean?
Download is how fast you receive data (streaming, browsing); upload is how fast you send it (calls, backups, posting). Ping is round-trip latency — lower is more responsive — and jitter is how much that latency varies, which matters for calls and gaming.
What's a good internet speed?
It depends on use: ~25 Mbps download handles HD streaming, 100+ Mbps suits busy households and 4K, and low ping (under ~50 ms) matters for video calls and gaming. Upload of 10+ Mbps is comfortable for calls and uploads.
Is my data sent to Toollyz?
No. Toollyz has no server — the test transfers data directly between your browser and Cloudflare's speed endpoints purely to measure throughput. Your results are stored only in your browser's local storage.
Why should I keep the tab focused during the test?
Browsers throttle timers and network in background tabs to save resources, which can skew the measurement. Keeping the tab active gives the most accurate result.
Does the test use a lot of data?
It transfers a modest amount — enough to measure steady-state throughput for a few seconds each way. On very fast connections that's some tens of megabytes; be mindful if you're on a metered or capped mobile plan.
Why is upload sometimes lower or slower to measure?
Most connections are asymmetric — upload is slower than download by design. Upload here is measured as a full round-trip (including the server's acknowledgment), and the tool sizes the test to your connection so it doesn't take too long.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The gauges and controls are fully responsive, so you can test Wi-Fi or mobile data on any device. Keep the tab in the foreground for accuracy.
Is this internet speed test free?
Completely free with no signup and no limits. Download, upload, ping and jitter testing are available to everyone, directly from your browser.
