What is a WiFi QR code?

A WiFi QR code is a QR code that encodes the network name (SSID), password and security type using the standard 'WIFI:T:...;S:...;P:...;;' format. When scanned by a phone's camera, the phone offers to join the network automatically — no typing required.

How do I scan a WiFi QR code?

Open your phone's camera app and point it at the QR code. Both iOS (13+) and Android (10+) recognize WiFi codes natively and offer a 'Connect to network' prompt. Older devices may need a dedicated QR scanner app.

Are WiFi QR codes secure?

The WiFi password is encoded directly inside the QR code, so anyone with line-of-sight to the printed code can read it with a scanner. Treat a WiFi QR code like a printed password — only display it where you'd be comfortable showing the password.

Can iPhones scan WiFi QR codes?

Yes — iOS 13 and newer can scan WiFi QR codes natively from the Camera app. The phone will show a banner offering to join the network. No app installation required.

What security types are supported?

WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 (the modern standard), WEP (legacy, deprecated — only use if you must), and open networks with no password. WPA3 networks scan correctly using the WPA setting since the QR format doesn't distinguish between WPA generations.
