Signature Generator

Create a digital signature in your browser — draw with mouse, trackpad or finger, or type your name in a cursive font. Customize pen color and width, undo/redo, trim whitespace, then download as a transparent PNG ready to paste into Word, Pages, email or a PDF. Free and private.

What is the Signature Generator?

A digital-signature generator is the easiest way to produce a transparent PNG of your signature to drop into PDFs, Word documents, emails, contracts or signup forms. Toollyz Signature Generator runs entirely in your browser using a 2D canvas: in Draw mode you sign with your mouse, trackpad or finger using Pointer Events (so it works the same on desktop, phone and Wacom tablets), with full pen-color and width control, a smoothed line (quadratic-curve interpolation between captured points, with round line cap and join), Undo / Redo and a Clear button. In Type mode you type your name in one of six system cursive fonts (Brush Script, Lucida Handwriting, Snell Roundhand, Bradley Hand, Comic Sans or generic `cursive`), with font size, fill color, letter spacing and an italic toggle. Both modes export a transparent PNG that's automatically trimmed (with a 16-pixel padding) for a clean placement in your document. Settings persist in localStorage; nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Pick Draw to sign with your mouse, trackpad or finger — or Type to render your name in a cursive font.
  2. Tweak pen / font color, pen width or font size and italic, and (Draw mode) the background colour or transparent.
  3. Use Undo, Redo and Clear to iterate; the canvas is responsive on mobile.
  4. Click Download PNG — the image is trimmed and saved with a transparent background.

Benefits

  • Draw mode with smoothed strokes via Pointer Events — works on mouse, trackpad, finger and stylus.
  • Type mode with six system cursive fonts, font-size 40–220 px, italic toggle and letter-spacing control.
  • Pen color and width controls, optional background (transparent / white / custom hex).
  • Undo, Redo and Clear with full history while you iterate.
  • Auto-trim around the strokes / text with a 16-px padding for a tidy transparent PNG.
  • Copy as a data URL for inline `<img src="…">` embedding.
  • Last settings saved to localStorage — refresh-safe and offline-friendly.
  • 100% private — Toollyz has no server, your signature never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is a typed or drawn signature legally binding?

In most jurisdictions (US E-SIGN Act, EU eIDAS, UK Electronic Communications Act) a typed or drawn signature image is considered a valid electronic signature for everyday contracts, provided both parties intend it to be a signature and it can be reliably attributed. For higher-value transactions (real estate, wills, court filings) check the specific rules where you live and consider a qualified e-signature service that records audit metadata. Toollyz produces the image; the legal context is on you.

Can I sign on my phone?

Yes — Draw mode uses Pointer Events, so it works with mouse, trackpad, finger and Apple Pencil / Wacom / Surface Pen. The canvas is responsive and prevents accidental scrolling while you sign.

Why does my typed signature look different on another device?

The cursive fonts are system stacks — your OS may not ship every option (e.g. Snell Roundhand is Apple-only). For a consistent look across devices, install Caveat / Pacifico / Dancing Script locally, or use Draw mode and ship the resulting PNG.

What is the trim option?

The export trims rows/columns of fully-transparent pixels around the strokes (with a 16-px padding) so the PNG is sized tightly to your signature. Useful when pasting into Word, Pages, email or a PDF — the signature drops in at the right scale without extra whitespace.

Does the PNG have a transparent background?

Yes by default (Draw mode background = transparent). Switch to a white or custom-color background in Draw mode if you want a solid backdrop (e.g. for signing on top of a colored document).

How do I undo a stray line?

Click Undo (or use the toolbar). Redo brings it back. Clear wipes everything. There's no limit on how many strokes you can undo in the current session.

Can I add my signature to a Word document?

Yes — download the PNG, then in Word use Insert → Pictures → This Device. Right-click the image and choose Wrap Text → In Front of Text so you can drag it over the signature line. The transparent background means the document's underline stays visible.

Can I add it to a PDF?

Yes — open the PDF in Preview (macOS), Acrobat or any PDF editor and paste the PNG as an image annotation. The transparent background blends with the page.

Is my signature uploaded?

No. Toollyz has no server in the path — the entire generator runs in your browser. The PNG is created and downloaded locally; the settings are saved in localStorage.

Is this Signature Generator free?

Completely free with no signup and no limits. Create as many signatures as you like — privately in your browser.
