What is the MAC Address Generator?
A MAC (Media Access Control) address generator produces 6-byte hardware identifiers — the unique number every Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth interface carries. Toollyz MAC Address Generator runs entirely in your browser using `crypto.getRandomValues`. **Random mode** sets the high two bits of the first byte correctly: the I/G bit (bit 0) is cleared so the address is unicast, and the U/L bit (bit 1) is set so the address is locally administered — meaning it's guaranteed not to clash with any IEEE-assigned OUI in the wild. **Vendor OUI mode** keeps a real-world 3-byte OUI prefix (Apple, Cisco, Intel, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Microsoft, VMware, Google, Raspberry Pi or Amazon — 12 options) and randomises only the last 3 bytes (16.7M combinations per OUI). Output supports four formats: colon (`AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF`), dash (`AA-BB-CC-DD-EE-FF`), Cisco dot (`AABB.CCDD.EEFF` — the format Cisco IOS shows in `show interface`) and plain (`AABBCCDDEEFF`). Toggle between UPPER and lowercase. Generate 1–500 at a time, copy individuals or the whole batch, or download as a .txt file. Toollyz has no backend.

Frequently asked questions
What is a MAC address?
A 6-byte (48-bit) hardware identifier assigned to a network interface (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth). The first 3 bytes are usually an OUI (Organisationally Unique Identifier) assigned to the device manufacturer; the last 3 bytes are device-specific.
What's the locally administered bit?
Bit 1 of the first byte (the U/L bit). When 0, the address is universally administered (assigned via the IEEE OUI registry). When 1, the address is locally administered — it's guaranteed not to clash with any IEEE assignment and is the safe choice for randomly-generated MACs.
What's the unicast bit?
Bit 0 of the first byte (the I/G bit). When 0, the address is unicast (one recipient). When 1, the address is multicast or broadcast. Toollyz Random mode always clears this bit so every generated address is a valid unicast.
Are the OUI presets real?
Yes — each preset uses a real-world OUI registered to that vendor. Vendors typically own many OUIs each; these are just one representative each. For exhaustive lookups, use the IEEE's OUI registry directly.
Why Cisco dot format?
Cisco IOS displays MAC addresses as `XXXX.XXXX.XXXX` (three groups of four hex digits separated by dots) in `show interface`, `show mac address-table` and configuration output. The format is useful when you're building or parsing IOS configs.
Can I use these on a real network?
For testing, lab setups and as fixture data — absolutely. For impersonating other devices in production — that's typically against the terms of service of any network you don't own. Use locally administered random MACs for privacy on your own devices.
Are vendor-OUI MACs valid?
The OUI itself is valid (it's really assigned to that vendor), but the last 3 bytes are random — they're very unlikely to collide with a real device but theoretically could. For laboratory and testing purposes, treat them as unique.
How does randomness compare with privacy MACs my phone uses?
Modern iOS and Android generate per-network locally administered MACs to avoid tracking. They use the same U/L bit trick Toollyz does. The point is the same: a MAC that won't clash with anyone else's and won't reveal your true hardware identity.
Are my generated addresses uploaded?
No. Toollyz has no backend — every byte is generated in your browser. Settings save to localStorage on this device only.
