What is the Invoice Generator?

An Invoice Generator turns a structured form (sender, recipient, line items, totals) into a polished, print-ready invoice PDF. Toollyz Invoice Generator builds the PDF inside your browser using the open-source pdf-lib library. The form has every field a freelancer or small business needs: From and Bill-to addresses (name + email + freeform multi-line address), invoice number, issue date and due date, currency (20 popular ISO 4217 codes — USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, INR, AUD, CAD, CHF, CNY, BRL, SGD, HKD, NZD, KRW, MXN, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, AED), tax percentage and a flat discount amount in the chosen currency, free-form Notes and Payment terms text, plus a theme colour that paints the accent bar and total, and an optional logo (PNG or JPG up to 1.5 MB) that's drawn in the top-right corner. The PDF is A4 portrait with Helvetica + Helvetica Bold (the 14 standard PDF fonts, so there are no font-embedding licensing concerns) and line items overflow to additional pages automatically. Currency formatting uses your browser's `Intl.NumberFormat` — symbols, separators and decimal places follow your locale.

How to use it

  1. Fill in From and Bill-to addresses, invoice number, dates and currency.
  2. Add line items (description, quantity, rate) — totals update live in the hero.
  3. Set tax %, discount, theme colour, notes and payment terms; optionally upload a logo.
  4. Click Generate PDF — the file is built and downloaded entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Invoice Generator work without a server?

Toollyz is a static site. Your browser uses the open-source pdf-lib library to construct a PDF document in memory from the form data and then offers it for download. There's no upload — every byte stays on your device.

Can I include my logo?

Yes — upload a PNG or JPG up to 1.5 MB. It's embedded in the top-right corner of the PDF and capped at 64 pt on the longest edge so it doesn't dominate the header. The logo bytes aren't saved to localStorage; the rest of the form is.

Does it support taxes?

Yes — a single tax percentage applied after the discount. For more complex tax setups (multiple rates, per-line taxes) you'd need to bake the tax into each line's rate or extend the tool. Many freelancers find a single rate sufficient.

Which currencies are supported?

20 ISO 4217 currencies — USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, INR, AUD, CAD, CHF, CNY, BRL, SGD, HKD, NZD, KRW, MXN, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, AED. Symbols, separators and decimals follow your browser locale via `Intl.NumberFormat`. Need a different currency? Pick the closest match and edit the resulting PDF in a viewer that supports it.

What page size is the invoice?

A4 portrait (595.28 × 841.89 pt). Line items automatically continue onto additional pages if they overflow. US Letter support and configurable sizes are on the roadmap.

Is the PDF accessible?

pdf-lib produces a tagged-content-stream PDF — readable in Acrobat, Preview, Firefox, Chrome, etc., and printable. Full Section 508 / WCAG tagging requires structure trees we don't add yet. For high-stakes accessibility, run the result through a dedicated tagger.

What happens to my data after I close the page?

Form values save to localStorage so a refresh doesn't lose your draft. The logo bytes don't (they're often too big and contain image data); you'll need to re-upload after a refresh. Clearing site data wipes everything; Toollyz can't recover it.

Can I edit the PDF after downloading?

Yes — open it in any PDF editor (Acrobat, PDFgear, PDFescape, Preview's markup tools). The pdf-lib output uses standard fonts and a simple structure that's friendly to editors.

Does it support tax-exclusive vs tax-inclusive pricing?

The line-item rate is taken as tax-exclusive: subtotal + discount adjustment + tax = total. If you need tax-inclusive prices (the EU consumer model), bake VAT into each rate and leave the tax field at 0.

Is this Invoice Generator free?

Completely free with no signup and no limits. Generate as many invoices as you like — privately in your browser.
