Favicon Generator from Text
Generate a clean favicon set from a letter, emoji or short word. Auto-fits the text on a 512×512 canvas, three shapes (square / rounded / circle), exports PNG at 16/32/48/64/128/180/192/256/512 plus a true Windows .ico (16+32+48) and a paste-ready <head> HTML snippet. Free and private.
What is the Favicon Generator from Text?
A favicon generator turns a short string (letter, digits or emoji) into the icon set every modern website needs. Toollyz Favicon Generator from Text renders onto a 512×512 canvas with three shape options (square / rounded square with a 22% corner radius / circle), configurable background colour, text colour, font (System UI / Inter / Georgia / Courier / Comic Sans), bold and italic toggles, and an auto-fit text engine that starts at 64% of the canvas size and shrinks by 15% per step until the text fits within 86% of the canvas width. The live preview row shows the result at 16, 32, 48, 64 and 180 pixels simultaneously so you can see exactly how it'll look in a browser tab vs an Apple touch icon. Export options: a quick-pick row downloads any of nine PNG sizes (16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 180, 192, 256, 512), "All PNG sizes" saves the whole set, and **Download favicon.ico** assembles a real Windows .ico file with embedded PNG payloads at 16, 32 and 48 (Vista+ format — much smaller than legacy BMP icons). The HTML snippet section copies a paste-ready `<head>` block with the standard link tags, the apple-touch-icon, theme-color and apple-mobile-web-app-title using your chosen site name. Toollyz has no backend.
How to use it
- Type a letter, digit or emoji (1-3 chars works best — the auto-fit shrinks longer words).
- Pick a shape (square / rounded / circle) and adjust background and text colours.
- Choose a font and the bold / italic toggles. The live preview strip updates instantly.
- Click Download favicon.ico for the classic /favicon.ico file, or All PNG sizes for the full set + Copy snippet for the <head> HTML.

Frequently asked questions
How does the auto-fit work?
The text starts at 64% of the canvas size, gets measured, and if it overflows 86% of the canvas width, the font shrinks by 15% and is re-measured. After up to 12 iterations the text fits cleanly — usually in 1-3 steps for short labels.
Why a 512×512 canvas if 16×16 is the smallest target?
Rendering at high resolution and downsampling produces sharper text at every size than rendering directly at 16×16 (where each pixel is huge relative to the glyph). The browser's native scaler handles the downsample with anti-aliasing.
What's special about the .ico file?
It's a true Windows ICO with the standard ICONDIR / ICONDIRENTRY headers and PNG payloads embedded at 16, 32 and 48 pixels. Windows Vista and later accept PNG-payload icons natively — files are much smaller than legacy BMP icons.
Will the emoji render the same on every device?
Emoji rendering depends on the OS's emoji font — Apple Color Emoji on macOS / iOS, Segoe UI Emoji on Windows, Twemoji or Noto Color Emoji on Android. They may look slightly different across platforms, but the canvas captures whatever your current OS renders.
What does the HTML snippet include?
Standard link tags for /favicon.ico, /favicon-16x16.png, /favicon-32x32.png, /favicon-192x192.png and /apple-touch-icon.png (180×180), plus a theme-color meta tag and the apple-mobile-web-app-title meta with your chosen site name. Paste it into your `<head>`.
Do I need to host the files?
Yes — upload them to your site's root (or wherever the link tags point). Browsers and search engines fetch them from there. Toollyz only generates the files; you host them.
Can I use this for a PWA?
Yes — the 192×192 and 512×512 PNGs satisfy the standard PWA manifest icon sizes. You'll still need to write a `manifest.json` referencing them.
Why three shapes?
Square is the classic browser-tab shape, rounded is what most modern OSes show on home screens (iOS / iPadOS apply their own clip anyway) and circle works well for character-based avatars. Pick the one that matches your brand.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Toollyz has no backend — rendering and ICO assembly happen entirely in your browser. Settings save to localStorage on this device only.
Is this Favicon Generator free?
Completely free with no signup and no limits. Generate as many favicons as you like — privately in your browser.
